Mel Ferrer married his fifth and final wife - Elizabeth
Soukotine - in a very private ceremony held at Caxton Hall in
the city of London, England, where they were both living at the time. Sean Ferrer, his 10-year-old son by Audrey Hepburn, flew in from Switzerland for
the ceremony and was very much a part of the festivities, even
sitting between the bride and groom at the dinner held
afterwards.
The 34-year-old bride was born in Brussels, Belgium, but her
late father had
emigrated from Russia and was descended from Russia's most
famous author, Leo Tolstoy. She was an editor of children's
books at the time she met her future husband. Although they
honeymooned in Switzerland where they would eventually live,
they continued to reside in London for the next several months.
The marriage would prove enduring and the couple celebrated
their 37th wedding anniversary three months before Mel Ferrer's
death in 2008.
